                            Mahaoya Hot Water Springs


Among The Number Of Hot Water Springs In Sri Lanka, The Mahaoya Hot Water Springs Are The Hottest. These Wells Are Located In Ampara District  Of Eastern Province  Sri Lanka.
In Mahaoya, There Are Well-Maintained 7 Wells With Different Temperatures. The Temperature Of Hottest Well Is Around 56oc. Tourists Throughout The World Got Attracted To This Place Due To Its Mythical Healing Powers.


                                 Muhudu Maha Viharaya
Muhudu Maha Viharaya  Is A  Buddhist  Temple  Located  In Ampara District  Of Eastern Province ,   Sri Lanka.     According To  The Historical Evidence, The History Of This Temple Goes Back To The Reign Of King Vkavantissa (205-161 B.C.). The Temple Is Located On The Potuvil Coast And It Is Believed To Be The Place Whereviharamahadevi,  The Daughter Ofking Kelani Tissa  Was Landed As Said In The Legend.  

    

                                Kudumbigala Monastery

Kudumbigala Monastery Is An Ancient Buddhist Monastic Complex Constructed In 246 BC, During The Reign Of The King Devanampiyatissa.  It Is Located In The Ampara District  Of Eastern Province , Sri Lanka. The Site Is Paved With Large Rock Boulders And Rock Surfaces Surrounded By A Thick Jungle.  The Monastic Complex Has Been Untouched For A Long Period Of Time And It Was Re-Discovered In Recent Past. Archaeologists Had Recovered Over 200 Rock Caves Belonging To This Forgotten Monastery.
According To A Rock Inscription Found In The Cave Named “Maha Sudharshana Lena” Itself, It Has Been Built And Offered To Arhats By The Giant Warrior Nandimitra (One Of Ten Giant Warriors Of King Dutugemunu) The Cylindrically Shaped Stupa Located In This Monastery Is The Only One Of Its Kind In Sri Lanka.


                      Deegawapiya Stupa
Deegawapi Stupa Is One Of The Solosmasthana (16 Most Sacred Places To Be Worshiped By Buddhist In Sri Lanka), Located In Ampara District  Of Eastern Province  Sri Lanka.

Deegavapi Has Always Been A Place Of Reverence For Buddhists In Sri Lanka. According To The Legends, The Lord Buddha In His Third Visit To Sri Lanka Proceeded To Deegavapi After Placing An Imprint Of His Foot On A Gemstone At The Summit Of Sri Pada (Adam’s Peak). It Is Said To Be That The Stupa We See Today Is Located In The Place Where The Lord Buddha And 500 Arhats Spent Time Meditating.
According To The Great Chronicle Mahavamsa Of Sri Lanka, This Stupa Was Constructed By The King Saddhatissa (137-119 BC).



                     Rajagala Monastery
The Rajagala Monastery Is A Sacred Site In Which History Dates Back To Theadvent Of Mahinda Thera.  This Place Is In The Uhana Area Of The Ampara District  In Eastern Province , Sri Lanka. The Archaeological Excavation Is Still Underway And It Is One Of The Largest Archaeological Sites In Sri Lanka With 1025 Acres.

The Rock Inscription Found Here Regarding The Arhat Mahinda Thera  Is The Most Valued Inscription Of Archaeological Interest. According To The Archaeological Discoveries, The Area Had Been Inhabited From The Prehistoric Times.



            Buddangala Monastery -Ampara

Buddhangala Monastery Is Located Not Far Away From Ampara Town And The Road Condition Is Good Due To Recent Development Process. Please Note That There May Be Wild Elephant Movements Close By So Avoid Travelling At Night Time.





   Hulan Nue Tharulengala Rajamaha Viharaya

Hulan Nuge, Tharu Lengala Temple Is Famous For Two Reasons. This Temple Has One Of The Oldest Reclining Buddha Statue Made With Clay. The Other Reason Is That The Hulannuge Cave Is Considered As The Longest Natural Cave In Asia. This Village Got Its Name Because Of The Large Nuga Tree, Which Generate Noise When The Wind Blows.

Location: Hulan Nuge Temple Is Located In Lahugala (A4 Road), Between Siyabalanduawa And Potuwil. If You Are Coming From Siyabalanduwa, You Need To Take A By Road Towards To Your Left Hand Side
.



        Kudumbigala Monanstry ,Kumanna
Kudumbigala Monastery Is Located In Middle Of The Jungle By The Panama – Kumana Road. This Place Is Special Because Of It’s Pagoda , The Only One Cylindrical Shape Dagoba In Sri Lanka.

Life In A Monastery Is Difficult, And Monks Get Only Basic Facilities To Maintain Their Life. But We Feel That Kudumbigala Monastery Is The Most Challenging Place To Have A Monk Life, Because It Is Far Away From The Normal Human Habitat And Very Less Facilities For The Monk Who Live There. Same Time It’s A Great Place To Meditate And Achive Higher States Of You Mind. Since This Is In The Northern Part Of Yala Santuary, There Are Many Wild Animals Such As Bears Mingle Close By.
According To The Historical Facts, This Monastery Was Built During The Time Of King Devanampiyatissa. There Are Many Rock Caves In This Site, Which Were Used By Monks.
This Monastery Is Located Close To Several Huge Rock Mountains And You Will Get One Of Unique Experience There. Once You Climb To The Summit, You Can See Breath Taking View Of The Surrounding Including The Okanda Beach In The Horizon.
This Is Consider As The Only Dagoba In Sri Lanka, That Was Built According To The Dhammachakka Stupa At Saranath In India.




             Magul Maha Viharya- Lahugala
Magul Maha Viharaya Is Located By The Lahugla National Sanctuary In The Ampara District. Even Though Most People Believe That Princes Vihara Maha Devi ( Mother Of King Dutugemunu ) Reach Kirinda, There Are Many Evidence That Real Place Is Muhudu Maha Viharaya In Potuvil. Later, The Wedding Of Her With King Kavanthissa Was Held In The Magul Maha Vihara Premises. “Magul” Is The Word In Native Shinhala Language For “Wedding”. There Is A Remaining Of The Structure In This Temple Premises Known As “Magul Maduwa”.

Magul Maha Vihara Complex Extents Towards Large Area And You Can See Many Historical Constructions Belonging To 2nd Century BC. At The Entrance You Can See Large Ponds Constructed For The Usage Of Monastery Monks.

One Of The Most Attractive Okanda Beach In Ampara District  Of Kumana.
